The brand of smoked salmon that the health authorities recommend not to buy: “it can have negative effects on the activity and attention of children”

The Organization of Consumers and Users has issued an alert through its digital portal to report that it has detected “Undeclared mustard in Benfumat salmon varieties”. “Are you allergic to mustard? You should avoid some of the smoked preparations of the Benfumat brand, as AESAN (Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition) warns that they include this ingredient in their composition. The products subject to this notice do not imply no risk to other consumers”, begins the statement issued by the OCU.

The “issues a new food safety alert. You have been notified of the presence of mustard in different smoked salmon products with wasabi sauce or seaweed from the Spanish brand Benfumat. Different varieties of Benfumat smoked salmon include mustard in their composition, a , but this is not indicated on the label, with the consequent risk for those allergic to this ingredient. In addition, it does not include all the information on an additive, the coloring E-102, of which it must be warned that: “it can have negative effects on the activity and attention of children”, they affirm from the OCU.

“The products with this labeling failure are some varieties of refrigerated smoked salmon of the Benfumat brand. Specific:

  • smoked salmon with seaweed loin 150 g: lots 901854, 900862, 900881, 900895, 900859, 900880
  • Smoked salmon with seaweed and wasabi 400 or 500 gr loins: lots 900869, 900880, 900890, 900888, 900860, 900874, 900875, 900896
  • Smoked salmon with soy and wasabi 400 gr: lots 900865, 900861, 900874, 900882, 900891
  • Smoked salmon with soy and wasabi 120 gr: lots 900874, 900897, 900880, 900861, 900859

The expiration date of these lots is April or May 2021.

These Benfumat products are manufactured in Catalonia and have been distributed in Catalonia, Madrid, Cantabria, the Basque Country, La Rioja, Murcia, Navarra, Andalusia and Castilla la Mancha,” they explain.

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition “has ordered that those affected be withdrawn from sale. If you have any of these salmon containers at home and you are allergic to mustard, you should not consume it. Ingesting this product does not pose any risk to other users.”
