REAAL, a system to instantly alert domestic accidents to the elderly –

/p>The company Ibermática has developed REALa monitoring system that allows instantly notify elderly people of domestic accidents. This is possible thanks to the fact that it can capture information through non-invasive sensors and treat data intelligently to extract alert patterns.

And it is that, as indicated from Ibermática, the monitoring systems standards for the elderly at home are effective in 70% of cases, but there are 30% of domestic accidents that still escape the control of official buttons. For this reason, and with the aim of offering a complete solution for the sector, this Spanish technology services company has developed, through its i3B Innovation Institutethe REAAL project, based on internet of things and the smart data analytics.
It is an initiative that allows monitor the activity of the elderly through non-invasive sensors and analyze the extracted data. Based on this information, and through Artificial Intelligence techniques, the system automatically learns the behavior of the inhabitant, with which establish certain patterns that may represent an emergency. When the solution detects a possible evidence-based risk situation, it sends an alert to emergency systems or primary caregivers.
Monitoring is based on motionsuch as the closing and opening of doors, or the smoke and gas detectionand it is carried out using low-cost non-invasive wireless sensors (between 10 and 30 euros) that measure 15×15 centimeters and connect to WiFi or an internal network that transmits the information. Thanks to this, this system is capable of distinguishing if there is smoke in the kitchen because the user has lit a frying pan or because of a fire, if the person has been in the bathroom for longer than necessary (fall alert) or if they have not left from home and there is no movement for hours.
as a pilot project REAL has been installed in almost a hundred homes, mainly in the Basque Country (80%), in association with the company specialized in home help Comprehensive Social Services (). The project was also temporarily implemented in one of the residential centers in order to detect abnormal movements in its 150 rooms and establish automatic emergency notifications for nursing professionals.
