How to make homemade whole wheat bread, a very healthy recipe


What do we need?

2 cups of whole wheat flour

1/2 cup plain flour

2 tsp/8g. baking powder

2 tbsp. of sugar

1 tsp. of salt

1 cup of milk

2 tbsp. Of olive oil

1 egg

Step by Step

  • Place the 2 cups of whole wheat flour and half a cup of all-purpose flour in a bowl.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of sugar and a teaspoon of salt.
  • Add a sachet (approximately 8 g) of baking powder and mix very well until everything is integrated.
  • Now we are going to gradually add a cup of warm milk, while mixing by hand until it is well combined.
  • Once everything is integrated, we add an egg and two tablespoons of olive oil. It can be replaced with regular oil but olive oil gives it a special flavor.
  • Continue mixing until you have a paste and knead it for 10 minutes. It’s not going to look like bread dough, but trust.
  • Gradually add more white flour, about 1/4 cup. Mix a little more and you will obtain a much firmer dough.
  • Transfer to the counter and knead about 60 times until the dough is very consistent.
  • Reserve in a bowl or plate with a towel on top, and let rise for 10 minutes. Yes, only 10 minutes.
  • Stretch the dough on the counter (just a little) and roll it so that it has the shape of a loaf.
  • Grease a pudding pan or container to cook the bread with olive oil. Place the dough, cover it with a towel and let it rise again, this time for 35 minutes. Meanwhile, we are going to preheat the oven to 200º, which is very important so that it is already very hot when it comes to putting the bread in to cook.
  • Once it has risen, brush with water and place seeds on top. The water is simply so that the seeds stick to the bread.
  • Splash the oven with a few drops of water to generate a little bit of steam. Bake for 30 minutes.
