What does the delicious Clamato contain and why is it better to make a homemade one?

Although there are many brands on the market, Clamato usually has large amounts of sodium and sugar; artificial dye red 40 and monosodium glutamate, among other harmful ingredients. Clamato is a tomato-based drink, which usually contains a touch of sea flavor. It is delicious to accompany some cold alcoholic drinks such as beer.

It is common to see it among party drinks, especially when you are on the beach. However, even a superficial analysis of the ingredients contained in this product can be alarming. Within its program of some products classified by the Mexican government as healthy but that are not, the organization El Poder del Consumidor presents a review of the harmful ingredients that this product usually has, in this case from the brand “Vuelve a la la Life”. Even so, do not forget that other brands usually use ingredients in very similar quantities, so we recommend you check them and avoid buying the product if it is similar in type and quantity:

Sugar

A 473ml bottle of Clamato “Vuelve a la Vida” (2 glasses of usual size) has around 4 teaspoons, which is between 60 and 84% of the maximum tolerated by an adult throughout the day in sugar, and in the children covers 105 to 140% of what they require. The most harmful thing is that it is fructose, which produces greater negative impacts on the body than cane sugar, and that fructose is associated, in large quantities, with strong metabolic disorders.

artificial colors

Most Clamatos contain the artificial dye Height Red or Red 40, derived from petroleum and which has been shown to have impacts on the behavior of boys and girls, generating hyperactivity and deficits. It should be noted that this color is used to make this product more attractive to customers.

Sodium

The amount of sodium in one of them covers 85% of the daily recommended total for an adult. Periodically consuming Clamato can lead to a greater risk of suffering from hypertension or high blood pressure.

How to make a homemade and therefore natural Clamato?

Ingredients: 1 previously cooked tomato, ground garlic and onion, pepper and cilantro (if you like, lemon and some spice).

Process: Put all the previous ingredients in the blender with a considerable amount so that the grinder does not clog, and add salt to taste. To give it a seafood flavor you can add a little shrimp powder before blending, or add flavor with a little natural seafood broth.

Blend, strain, serve on ice and with a celery stick.
