Penis size is at all-time highs: why have they grown in recent years?

One of the biggest concerns of most men, especially from adolescence, is the size of the . Since time immemorial, the length and thickness of the male member have been closely related to virility, which directly affects the self-esteem and confidence of men.

According to the data of the Spanish Association of AndrologySpaniards have a penis larger than the world average, with an average of 13.58 centimeters.

Regarding the size of the flaccid penis, the average is 9-10 centimeters and a circumference of 9 centimeters.

When is it considered micropenis?

However, having a penis that measures less than 13 centimeters does not necessarily mean that you have an abnormal member.

And it is that, only one that measures less than 8 centimeters in erection is considered a micropenis, so a size smaller than 13 centimeters could only be considered a penis smaller than average.

And no, it does not have to influence your own pleasure or that of others.

Now, an American study led by michael eisenbergfrom Stanford University, and published in , points out that the size of the penis has increased remarkably, worldwide, in the last 29 years.

To reach this conclusion, they have analyzed more than 55,000 men and collected data from more than 75 studies.

  • And the bottom line is that, according to the researchers, we have experienced a 24% increase in the last three decades. Specifically, from 1992 to 2021 it has gone from 12.19 centimeters to 15.34 cm.

But despite the fact that many may believe that this is good news, scientists are really concerned.

Why has the average penis size increased in the world?

Investigation is still underway to find out what are the reasons for this increase, but everything seems to indicate what could be due to:

  • Environmental factors

  • Increase in sedentary lifestyles

  • Even the use of hygiene items that affect the hormonal systems.

Still, while “researchers have hypothesized that a sedentary lifestyle and/or increased exposure to hormone-disrupting substances may play a role,” they are not the only reasons.

And the increase in size is not the only concern of the experts. Because they have also observed that sperm quality has drastically decreased by more than 60% due to:

  • “A drop in sperm count

  • Decreased serum testosterone levels

  • Increased rates of testicular tumors

  • Increase in congenital genital defects”.

Still, Eisenberg also notes that “given the trends we’ve seen in other measures of men’s reproductive health, just as it has increased now, we think there could be a decrease in penile length in the coming years, and it could also be due to environmental exposure”.

These data are “worrying”

But why could a decrease in the average length take place in the coming years?

Michael Einseberg emphasizes in the research that there is still no really clear explanation, but “it could be the response to the increase in a relatively short period, which would mean that something is happening in our body.”

For this reason, the next step for the experts is to study whether this has also occurred in the child population, since now only men over 18 years of age have been analyzed.

Also, “if there are detailed data on lifestyle factors or environmental exposures, we could try to understand why this may be happening.”

And what about the ? Are there changes taking place in the female reproductive organs?

This is precisely another of the questions that we also want to find out to confirm if these modifications are extensible to the entire population in general.
