Nuts and vegetables, beneficial for the prostate

The director of the Institute of Advanced Urological SurgeryDr. Fernando Gómez, has recommended being hydrated throughout the day and eating nuts and green leafy vegetables to maintain good prostate health during these Christmas holidays.

According to this doctor, drinking throughout the day is positive but you have to “avoid excessive hydration in the last hours of the day.”

In addition, nuts and green leafy vegetables are good for prostate health if taken as a snack because they “provide a lot of Vitamin E”. In fact, Gómez also recommends eating salads that contain tomato because they are “very rich in lycopene because it helps slow down the aging of the prostate.”

For the main dishes, Gómez also highlights eating foods that contain omega3 fatty acids, such as sardines, tuna and mackerel, since they “help correct possible defects in the prostate.” Within shellfish, oysters are also very beneficial due to their high zinc content.

Regarding foods that contain this chemical element, Dr. Gómez recommends choosing sweets that contain cocoa, but always accompanying them with a good tray of fruit rich in vitamin C with pieces such as mangoes or oranges with great antioxidant power or pomegranates, since they can decrease PSA levels, according to some recent studies that Gómez points out.

Apart from these recommendations, the director of the Institute of Advanced Urological Surgery warns that there are certain foods that it is better to avoid so as not to harm prostate health at Christmas. In this way, Gómez emphasizes that “alcohol consumption, especially after dinner, and reduce the consumption of stimulants such as coffee or rich cola drinks” can be avoided as much as possible.

This specialist has also pointed out that “fried products, hot sauces, canned tomatoes and red meats – which tend to inflame the prostate gland – are harmful, since they can aggravate the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia or trigger them if they are not suffered”.
