New apartments and day center of the Zorroaga Foundation

The Fundación Zorroaga advances in its response to the needs of the elderly with the construction of a new space designed to promote the autonomy and permanence of the elderly in their environment. These new facilities are intended to be a benchmark in the care model for the elderly.

In the heart of Donostia-San Sebastiánthe new apartments and the day center of Zorroaga Foundation for the care of the elderly have meant an investment of 5 million euros and more than three years of works. Its exact location is Calle Arrasate, number 51, and it will open its doors in the first quarter of this year.

The mayor of Donostia and president of the Board of Trustees of the Zorroaga Foundation, Eneko Goiarecently visited these new facilities accompanied by the Councilor for Social Action, Aitziber San Romanthe director of the foundation, Aintzane Uriguenand those responsible for Zorroaga, who with this project advances in its Person-Centered Comprehensive Care strategy (AICP).

Just like Eneko Goia, “This is a relevant project, which highlights the way in which our city focuses care for the elderly. We want the users of these facilities are comfortable and at ease, in their environment. The Zorroaga Foundation does a great job, offering a quality service and adapting to the needs and reality of Donostia”.

For her part, the director of the Zorroaga Foundation, Aintzane Uriguenstressed that these new facilities represent“the culmination of a complex process initiated by the foundationto respond to the needs of the elderly in the city, with pioneering equipment that helps them to continue developing their life project and their activity, while promotes their autonomy. It is a unique opportunity that is difficult to repeat as it is possible to count on a social equipment of this kind in such a central location. We favor that older people stay active and maintain their relationships and bonds with the community”.

The users of this new place

The five-story building that houses the new apartments and day center of the has been completely rebuilt over three yearsrespecting the facade that is protected by the General urban planning plan.

Inside, it will house two differentiated services: a day center with 30 places for dependent people and 34 apartments that will house 36 autonomous elderly people or with a slight degree of dependency.

The building has Independent accesses for the apartments and for the day centerlocated on the ground floor and which has a reception area, rooms for rest and physical and cognitive stimulation activities, a dining room and adapted bathrooms.

The day center allows people who live in the center of San Sebastián and their families to have this service close to your home, favoring access to the center, without having to use adapted transport, and giving rise to a use. Is directed to dependent elderly people (levels 2 and 3) who live at home with family support or home care services.

The apartments are distributed on the five floors of the building. The first three have 8 individual apartments each, 7 are located in the fourth silver and 3 in the fifth. Two of them are doubles and all have kitchen area, living room, bedroom and adapted bathroom. Besides, on the fifth floor there is a communal terrace.

The semi-basement floor houses a common room for people residing in supervised flatsand also has an interior patio, laundry and bathrooms. On this floor are also located various service spacessuch as an industrial kitchen, cold rooms, changing rooms, facilities rooms, bicycle room, etc.

The facility offers users the ability to access the community services of all kinds (health, cultural, commercial…) located nearby and enjoy a privileged environmentsuch as the Paseo de la Concha.

The supervised apartments are oriented to autonomous people or with a slight degree of dependency (levels 0 and 1 of the ), who can continue to live in their environment autonomously or with the necessary support so that they can function independently in their day to day.

This center will have a team of geriatric workers, a director and service staff. In the case of apartmentsthere will also be gerocultorasbut the professional profile will be oriented more towards the social field, in order to promote the inclusion in the community and facilitate the coordination with other services. You can apply for a place in the basic social services of the City Council. The forecast is that in February or March of this year These spaces are already in operation.
