Meet blue fireflies (and the magic of not being able to photograph them)

Perhaps one of the most controversial characteristics of our time is the obstinacy to document everything; in photos or videos. People publish (largely for other people) what we eat, where we go, our tastes… To some extent, social networks have fueled an obsession with “catching” everything that happens to us.

Fortunately there are some phenomena that are not so easily captured; some of them from nature and among these elusive cases are the blue fireflies. In English they are known as “Blue Ghost Fireflies”, something like Blue Ghost Fireflies.

Due to the same type of light they emit, they are very difficult to capture. They are also very unusual because they only appear for one month during the summer, especially in the forests of Appalachia in the United States, and their light is not usually so intermittent; but a kind of perennial bioluminescence that sometimes seems to fade into the sky. Locals say they are the spirits of Confederate soldiers killed in battle.
