How to make beautiful recycled furniture step by step

It is increasingly common to find ingenious objects made with recycled materials. From toys, decorations for the home or office and objects for the garden, to larger pieces such as incredible furniture. In this sense, recycled furniture not only contributes to caring for the environment in many ways, but also gives our spaces a touch of originality. In addition, they are economically viable and their creation processes are very pleasant.

We will soon share with you a complete guide to making three recycled pieces of furniture and some practical tips; a guide on the materials you will need, and some photos that can give you many more ideas.

Tire armchair or table

Materials:

  • old tires

  • thick rope

  • Spray glue

  • Glue for wood

  • Wood

  • Foam

  • Fabric

  • Stapler

  • You can find used tires in stores that are specifically dedicated to tire repair, or even find out if there is an organization dedicated to recycling this harmful object, such as this Mexican association.

You can find everything else in hardware stores, tlapalerías, fabric stores and lumber stores. You can also look for the rope in online stores, where there is a good variety of colors.

    Procedure:

Wash the tire very well and let it dry. Cut the wood the same size as the tire, spray a layer of spray glue on the tire, let it dry a little and place wood glue on the surface of the tire that you will place on the tire. Let dry 8 hours. Spray a layer of glue on the top of the tire and all over the wood. Twist the rope starting from the middle of the wood and make a spiral. Spray another layer of spray glue on the sides of the tire and continue wrapping the rope until you get to where you can’t see the rubber of the tire on the underside.

Depending on the thickness of the wood, your tire could look like a flat table like in the photo above; or if it is sunken in the middle you can make an armchair.

Just use another piece of wood, glue the foam cut to the same dimensions, and staple the fabric of your choice cut into a square shape to the back with about 5 cm extra to make folds and staple around the wood. You will have a nice chair.

    huacales table

    Materials:

  • Huacales

  • sandpaper

  • mahogany paint

  • Spray sealant

  • Brush

  • Wood

  • Glue for wood

  • Procedure:

You can get huacales (or vegetable crates) at any market, and everything else at hardware stores, tlapalerías, and lumber stores.

Sand the crates, paint them and spray the sealer. Cut a wooden board of the same diameter as the boxes arranged in a square shape and place glue on its entire surface. Place the crates and let them dry for 8 hours.

You can have a thick glass surface cut to the same size to put on top of the crates. And voila, you will have a coffee table with space to store what you want in the middle.

    Partition shelf

    Materials:

  • Concrete blocks

  • Wooden boards

  • sandpaper

  • Paint

  • Varnish (optional)

  • You can get cement blocks at construction stores, but it is also easy to find leftovers from constructions that would otherwise no longer be used.

    Procedure:

Once you get them you just need to sand the boards, paint and varnish them, and place two or three alternating blocks and boards on them. By playing with the color combination you can make a nice shelf, since you can also paint the partitions. Or leave them in their natural color for a more casual style:
