Learn about the content of Nestlé’s Chamyto and why it is unhealthy for children

Under the guise of replacing large amounts of sugar in children’s products with diet sweeteners, some companies have tried to pretend that their products are healthier. In Mexico, new legislation has reduced the products that can be advertised during children’s hours; However, some like Nestlé’s Chamyto have achieved a “quality” of being healthy, despite this being fictitious.

We present a series of installments where the organization El Poder del Consumidor warns us about products that are a hoax and that, behind a mask of being healthy, actually harm children due to their ingredients. In today’s installment, we turn to Chamyto:

Chamyto is promoted as a fermented milk product that helps take care of your children’s tummies with lactobacilli that protect them against pathogenic bacteria, but in reality, this product is unhealthy for the following reasons:

Diet sugar: It contains invert sugar and sucralose. The latter is a non-caloric sweetener that is not recommended for consumption by preschoolers and schoolchildren. The amount of sugar contained, 10g, is equivalent to two teaspoons of sugar and covers 50 to 66% of the maximum sugar tolerated by a child, according to the American Heart Association (AHA).

Other ingredients: , sugar, skim milk powder 4.3% (3.5 ml), pectin, artificial flavor, lactobacilli, sucralose, turmeric and annatto extract.
