June 9: International Telefónica Volunteer Day

Fundación Telefónica celebrates on Friday June 9 its ‘Telefónica International Volunteer Day’a day that will take place simultaneously in 30 countries to make visible the work and commitment of the more than 60,000 volunteers who work every day to promote social inclusion.

The epicenter of the day will be located in Madrid Telephone District where 30 activities will be carried out between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with different social entities and groups with the focus on reducing social and digital vulnerability.

More than 4,000 people will participate in the solidarity activities organized to shorten the improve the employability of people in vulnerable situations, encourage responsible use of the Internet, improve the inclusion of groups at risk, such as elderly or disabled peopleor raise awareness in social and environmental terms.

Some notable activities of Distrito Telefónica:

  • Senior Digital Adoption Bootcamp for Seniors, with the organization Voluntechies and the Foundation for the Promotion of Development and Integration (FDI) (300 senior citizens and 300 Telefónica volunteers)
  • ProFuturo computational thinking workshop with primary school children, with the NGO Creática y Cooperación Internacional (250 boys and girls from 9 to 11 years old and 40 Telefónica volunteers)
  • Cyberbullying prevention workshop for adolescents, with the organization Young&Solidary and the José María de Llanos Foundation (60 high school students and 20 Telefónica volunteers)
  • Employability workshops for people with disabilitieswith Prodis Foundation (80 beneficiaries and 80 Telefónica volunteers)

Through its Volunteer program channel the solidarity impulse of the company’s employees, making their vocation of agents of changeand putting their digital skills at the service of society to combat social and digital vulnerability.
