Why premature ejaculation occurs

The causes of premature ejaculation can be physical or psychological. The latter are the most frequent, so much so that the latest research considers that more than 90% of cases have this origin. Below, we analyze these two factors.

Physical causes of premature ejaculation

  • Age: Primary premature ejaculation especially affects young men, starting with the first sexual relations, progressively gaining control. In this case, factors related to the arousal phase also influence such as the novelty of the partner or situation, frequency of sexual activity, etc. Secondary premature ejaculation usually occurs after the age of 40.
  • Genetics: Primary premature ejaculation may be due to a gene, specifically one of the genotypes of the 5-HTTLPR gene, which causes ejaculations twice as fast as normal.

  • Poor sexual practices due to lack of information, feelings of guilt, etc.

How to stop being precocious: exercises

How to control premature ejaculation? As we have already said, during masturbation you can learn to control ejaculation. In fact, many behavioral techniques focus on this practice as the main method to treat PD and stop it being precocious. Below, we describe the two most used techniques that you can do at home alone or with your partner.

Sermans’ stop-start technique

This technique to treat premature ejaculation consists of stimulating the penis by the same person or the partner until a sensation close to orgasm is felt. At that moment it must stop stimulation until this sensation is inhibited. Then, repeat the sequence again until you can voluntarily control ejaculation.

The “compression technique” of Masters and Johnson

This technique includes two phases:

  1. The first consists of tighten the frenulum of the penis for a few seconds once you have achieved full erection and feel the need to ejaculate. Once the compression is released, wait about 30 seconds and repeat the first action until you can hold on and delay ejaculation for at least a minute and a half.
  2. In the second phase intercourse is attempted, first with the partner on top without her moving and trying to control and hold back ejaculation. Later, with the same posture, but with movement, she also tried to control ejaculation. If you cannot control the discharge for the desired time, you must return to the first phase.

Premature ejaculation remedies

Other remedies that you can try at home are: local anesthetics, such as creams with lidocaine or condoms with benzocaine, which delay ejaculation time. The problem is that they do not solve the root cause and the problem persists when they are not used. In addition, they also affect the couple by reducing their sensitivity or even irritating the vaginal area.

Here you will find others.

Treatment to stop being premature

The treatment used to intervene in premature ejaculation may include:

  • Psychological treatment: are techniques that include the treatments explained in the previous section, complemented with cognitive behavioral therapy and/or support therapy focused on counseling, solving difficulties in the relationship, etc. The important thing is to go to a specialist to determine the causes and the best type of treatment in each case.
  • Pharmacotherapy: some antidepressant drugs or Viagra are capable of delaying ejaculation, but their intake should be always prescribed by a doctor after carefully studying each particular case. This is important, since these types of drugs directly affect and can have contraindications and severe side effects.
