Bioneuroemotion: What is it and how does it work?

Enric Corbera, the director of the Spanish Institute of Bioneuroemoción, is an expert in emotional management and personal development. Bioneuroemotion is the study of the biological meaning of symptoms that occur in the body. It aims to understand that everything in nature contains valuable information that can be learned unconsciously. But how does it work, what is it based on and what is a session like?

Bioneuroemotion investigates the way to enter the unconscious so that learning can be modified, and emotions managed. Enric Corbera defines this as the art of unlearning. He believes that behind every emotion, there is a belief that needs to transcend to heal.

What is Bioneuroemotion based on?

Bioneuroemotion is based on seeking irrational thoughts to heal the emotions that arise from those thoughts. This leads to the development of “rational emotive therapy”, originally created by psychotherapist, Albert Ellis. This approach posits that emotional states are caused by an interpretation of events rather than events themselves. Humans can modify irrational beliefs and thoughts creating more rational, less painful emotional states.

Eleven irrational beliefs include:

  • A need to be loved and approved by important people.
  • A need to achieve success and avoid making mistakes.
  • The inclination to blame and punish those who do not behave correctly.
  • Believing things have to be as we think they should be, and if not, it is a catastrophe.
  • The belief that human unhappiness is caused by something external, beyond our control.
  • A need to control and worry about everything that is dangerous or threatening.
  • Being happier avoiding difficulties and responsibilities of life.
  • The belief that we should trust and depend on someone stronger than us.
  • Belief in the past being the reason for the way we are today.
  • A belief that we should worry about others when they have problems and feel sad when they are sad.
  • The belief that for every problem, there is an ideal solution; anything less is a catastrophe.

How does Bioneuroemotion work?

Bioneuroemotion uses three techniques to locate learned information and change it if possible. The three stages are chronological age, sense/project stage, and family tree. The first stage focuses on analysing conflicts a person experienced throughout their life, while the second stage analyses the conflicts experienced by parents from conception to three years of age. The third stage is dedicated to analysing the family tree in search of similarities or patterns that will help understand where the triggering situation came from.

After discovering the connection between emotion and illness, a state of quarantine is needed to fight the mind’s resistance to unlearn the associated belief. The practitioner will have to reflect to unlearn it. Bioneuroemotion promises that once beliefs are unlearned, the emotions they produced will disappear, and subsequent illness will no longer have a cause.

What is the difference between Bioneuroemotion and biodecoding?

Biodecoding focuses exclusively on the biological perspective. In contrast, Bioneuroemotion is based on a holistic paradigm that recognises the different factors influencing emotional and health well-being in each individual. As a result, people who experience the same difficulty may not have the same underlying conflict. Therefore, in Bioneuroemotion, there are no general formulas and a single solution does not apply to everyone.

What is a Bioneuroemotion session like?

A Bioneuroemotion session lasts one and a half hours maximum. Enric Corbera defines it as a different perspective that aims to understand how we interpret reality, influenced by culture and family. In the sessions, consultants ask specific questions to learn about personal and family history and relate experiences and beliefs to current conflicts. The goal is to activate the participant towards managing emotional imbalances through positive actions or decisions.
