Adamo the first physiotherapist robot is already on the market

Adamo it’s a physiotherapist robot developed by the company Future Sensebelonging to Inspiralia Groupwhich emulates the manual therapies using compressed air. Thanks to the latest advances in sensors, thermography and 3D visionthis collaborative robot, which incorporates the technology Universal Robots UR5E cobot, complies with millimeter precision instructions from healthcare professionals.

This physiotherapist robot has been designed to improve people’s lives. After years of research and development, its first units are already on the market to help clinics reduce waiting lists, digitize the history of each patient so you can receive treatment at any facility equipped with Adamo, and shorten recovery times in back pain. By precisely following the instructions of the healthcare professional, the robot guarantees the maximum effectiveness of the treatments.

It is the first time that a collaborative robot to treat the musculoskeletal system of the spine. Its managers have opted to give maximum medical consistency to its development. That is why they have chosen a UR5e, 100% safe cobot that provides all the guarantees of security and usability.

Developed in Spain, Adamo Robot implements technology of
state-of-the-art, such as the UR5E Cobot from Universal Robots, thermal imagers and 3D cameras, sensors and a compressed air compressor

The solution is currently in the process of medical certification as Medical Device Class IIaWell, although Adamo does not touch the patient, its developers have wanted him to enjoy the maximum clinical certification as a medical device. The robot is in accreditation process at Hospital San Pedro (Logroño) with the involvement of the Biomedical Research Center of La Rioja (CIBIR).

Treatment with Adamo begins with the diagnosis by a physical therapistwho virtually marks the points on the back that needs to be treated in the patient. The cobot plots the pointsmaps them individually with 3D cameras, sensors and thermography, and memorizes them. Then, using intuitive software, the physiotherapist programs the pressure to be exerted by the robotic arm, the time and the temperature at each treatment point. A air compressor delivering more than 200 liters per minute allows to accurately imitate manual therapies.

Thanks to a thermal imaging camera, Adamo measures body temperatures to follow the evolution of the patient in each session and, making Using Big Data, objectively predict what result you will get the treatment. This physiotherapist robot also has security and distance sensors and a heating-on-demand mechanism for the patient to regulate the sensation of hot and cold.

Another advantage that the brings to patients is that their data remains in the cloud, so they can receive treatment at any clinic or hospital equipped with the robot with the same guarantees of quality and efficiency. The medical center and the doctor always have the user’s online data updated.

As highlighted Carlos Jimenez Guajardo-FajardoExecutive Managing Director of Future Sense, “the physiotherapists to whom we have introduced our system are the first to support this solution, as It is not a substitute, but a supplement that makes your job easier. With Adamo Robot they can automate manual tasks to spend more time with the patient and provide more personalized care”. Besides, “To ensure these advantages, we have opted for a safe and 100% collaborative robot like the one he offered us”.

The success that Adamo is reaping is one more example of the versatility offered by open and collaborative technology such as cobots, which even goes beyond the industrial field. Universal Robots is proud to support innovative initiatives that involve the collaboration of robotics with disciplines that have as aim to improve people’s quality of life”, points Jordi PelegriGeneral Director of Universal Robots in Spain and Portugal.
