Official colors of the Poodle

It is important to note that the FCI only accepts unicolor specimens and exclusively in the following six shades:

black poodle

It is an intense and strong coat in black, without the presence of even some white strands. They are usually the result of crossing two pure black Poodles, but occasionally a white or brown Poodle is used in the cross, in order to give more pigment to the fur.

brown poodle

The darker and more intense the brown, the better accepted the dog is. These Poodles are also called chocolate and it is common that their coat does not have as good texture as that of specimens of other colors. It is important to note that to raise the pigment it is crossed with a black Poodle from time to time.

white poodle

This is the most common Poodle, which stands out for its ice white or cotton white color throughout its entire length. Likewise, it is observed that his eyes are intense black, as well as his nose and eyelids. On the other hand, the crossing is usually between white specimens, occasionally combining with a black Poodle and avoiding brown Poodles.

gray poodle

This beautiful animal tends to be born in black, but it is easy to distinguish, since there are always light hairs around the paw pads. As they grow they turn gray, sometimes turning towards a somewhat bluish gray. His lips, eyelids and nose are a slate gray tone. The eventual crossing with a black specimen is necessary so that the pigment is preserved, however, they should never be mated with other types of Poodle.

Apricot poodle

This Poodle is another family favorite. Their color is between light yellow and light beige (they should not be cream, champagne or red), and there must be uniformity throughout the entire length of the coat. It is valid to cross with a red Poodle but not with a gray one.

red poodle

We finish with the red Poodle, its tone is quite intense and completely even, so neither light nor dark gradients are seen in it. As for the crossing, the most appropriate thing is to keep it between red Poodles, although the union with an Apricot is also accepted.

Other colors of the Poodle

Although the FCI does not accept bicolor specimens, according to crossbreeding, there are also other colors of Poodles:
