14 proposals to improve air quality in CDMX

Clean air in CDMX is not common and is very close to a kind of fantasy. Citizens are immersed in an urban ecosystem with poor air quality that takes away the possibility of good respiratory health. However, not everything is bad, as there are some alternatives to improve the air.

Around 17,000 Mexicans lose their lives each year indirectly through evil. And it is nothing new that we now receive notifications on our smartphone about the risk to “sensitive groups” due to pollution. At first this didn’t seem important to us, but poor air quality is equivalent to involuntarily smoking 40 cigarettes a day. Although sustainable mobility programs have increased, the change in our environmental paradigm requires more than that.

Now the government announced several measures that will be implemented to have greater control over not only the use of cars, but in all areas encompassed by the mobility industry.

These provisions contemplate a better implementation of an urban routine that seeks to offer better transportation and roads to avoid environmental contingencies. However, this is a collective work that can begin with leaders and continue with us.

Measures to improve air quality:

  • Reduction of emissions in the industry in the distribution of LP gas

  • Reduction of volatile organic compounds in coatings and household products.

  • Inspection and strategic surveillance to control emissions at gas stations.

  • Distribution of less volatile gasoline in the Megalopolis.

  • Best practices for fire management and fire prevention.

  • See also  The blue blood tree that purifies the earth of metals (natural resilience)
  • Control of emissions and use of clean fuels in the industrial sector.

  • Reduction of emissions from urban maintenance.

  • Regulation of the circulation of cargo transport and detection of clearly polluting vehicles.

  • Vehicle emissions standards.

  • Regulation of emissions of new motorcycles.

  • Implementation of a new scheme for the granting of vehicle verification holograms.

  • Promotion of sustainable mobility.

  • Increasing the capacity of sustainable public transport.

  • Technological development to improve air quality.

  • We must all demand that the government take measures to protect the environment, not only by implementing better mobility options, but also through the care and conservation of urban green areas. This is not an issue that can be negotiated, the authorities must guarantee clean air to society. It is true that this is everyone’s job, but we must begin to press for real and fair changes to the problem we face.

Clean air is a right and poor air quality is not something we should get used to. Breathing well and avoiding death should not be an everyday struggle; Therefore, using our political voice to demand something basic is essential.
