Why do women prefer men with tattoos?

A published in the scientific journal “Personality and Individual Differences” has suggested a surprising yet illuminating reason why women prefer men with tattoos as sexual partners.

According to research, the presence of tattoos on the skin creates an accentuated perception of virility that pleases heterosexual women, who associate it with attractive qualities such as dominance.

According to researchers, tattoos not only affect the perspective of the female sex, they also play an important role in competitive interactions between men, since they transmit a greater tendency towards aggressiveness and, therefore, the ability to intimidate.

The study was carried out taking into consideration a sample of 2,500 heterosexual men and women from Poland, who observed a group of shirtless tattooed subjects. Some of them were digitally modified to show small tattoos on the arm area.

From the questions asked to the participants, in addition to the conclusions cited above, it was extracted that the presence of tattoos in men can also play a negative role in the perception of women, since the high levels of testosterone that are associated with Tattoos are sometimes related to a greater tendency to domestic violence and infidelity.

Additionally, some of the women in the study indicated that tattooed men were “the worst prospects” to become partners or potential parents.

Regarding tattoos on women, the social perception is somewhat less favorable. According to a study carried out in 2005, the public tends to consider tattooed women as people who are more open to having sexual relations without commitments. Although this does not imply an exclusive perception of promiscuity, it does indicate that women with tattoos could be the target of prejudice because they are seen as less selective and more willing to only have casual sex.
