An equation, almost like love, is a complex law to decipher. Within the laws that govern the universe, there are some deeper than others and in different languages. The law that you will know today is classified as “the most beautiful in physics”: the equation of love.
The meaning of the Dirac equation
Paul Adrien Maurice Dirac was a mathematical physicist who published the first articles on “The Electron”. From these articles, the Dirac equation was born, one of the most relevant equations in physics. This equation uncovers the phenomenon of quantum entanglement and looks something like this: (∂ + m) ψ = 0.
Although not many of us know about quantum physics, we somehow seek to understand its definitions from day-to-day natural actions. On this occasion, Dirac’s equation took on special meaning through romance. The equation itself is defined as:
“If two systems interact with each other for a certain period of time and then separate, we can describe them as two different systems. But in a subtle way they become a unique system. What happens to one continues to affect the other, even at a distance of kilometers or light years.”
From this notion, it made sense to many people to take up this idea and apply it to love experiences.
What is the equation of love?
Although the Dirac equation does not directly connect to romantic relationships, it seems to make sense that two systems that were once united forever share a connection.
In some way, quantum entanglement details that, if two particles were linked, once separated (even on opposite sides of the universe) they will always share a bond. The connection between the two is instant, just like love.
From illusion to real quantum physics
For centuries, human beings have tried to make sense of what unites the universe. Science was dedicated to seeking a rational and exact explanation of why we exist, how and under what criteria. However, philosophy was in charge of the human part, of the feelings, emotions and the deepest thoughts of the being.
In every aspect of the universe, philosophy and science come together like two particles. Although we want to explain life itself exactly, the essence of the soul and feeling are present in one way or another. Something similar happened with the Dirac equation.
Although quantum physics determines this equation as the result of an experiment between particles, we like to think that there is essence in everything that surrounds us. After all, we experience emotions firsthand.
Through a scientific look we know that if we measure the state of one particle at a distance from another, and the state of the second particle is altered, then we are in the presence of quantum entanglement.
In particles the results can be clear and exact (sometimes). However, for human experience it is complex to measure sensations. We do not communicate through physics, but through emotion, fear, happiness or love.
Words sometimes do not explain sensations in detail. But, on this occasion the equation of love managed to express on a quantum level the connection that is created between two people. And perhaps, for the first time, we found a way to put human feelings into action.
