The benefits of lying down naked to sunbathe

More than a simple physical well-being practice, it is a psychocultural ritual. Yes, sunbathing naked, lying down, exposed in the fullest sense of the word, has therapeutic, even cathartic, qualities worth experiencing.

Today we know with certainty that the sun affects our physical and emotional health. This is due, in large part, to the fact that sunlight provides us with vitamin D. The lack of this vitamin is associated with various psychological disorders, including depression. Obviously, it’s not about ingesting a monumental amount of sun to fry your skin with ultraviolet rays.

But beyond ensuring your daily dose of sun (which you can check here), sunbathing completely naked is an act of pure naturalness. As it says Salvatore Scibona in his article for the NY Times:

When you sunbathe naked, you are subjecting yourself to the same conditions and the same star as every creature that has ever crawled or walked in the light of day without having had underwear on. Pleasure is both carnal and otherworldly. Nothing civilization offers you could compete with this.

This ancient rite could be one more resource, one of the many urgent ones, to reconnect with that primary facet that is part of our essence. So if you find a corner with some privacy, and ideally in nature, do not hesitate to take off your clothes, lie down for a few minutes and surrender to the sensoriality that the king of stars will awaken in you.
