Strong illustrations of social criticism that show us what is wrong today

Many great contemporary artists have stimulated their creativity to be able to create illustrations of social criticism loaded with strong messages that seek to raise awareness about current problems.

Thus, artists like the Polish Pawel Kuczynski illustrate – literally – the catastrophe we are experiencing in today’s society. In his illustrations, as in all works of social criticism, there is something brutal and scary to see, since they are not only a reproach to companies or politicians but, fundamentally, to our own actions.

We can see, in this way, the two sides of the coin: scenes of inequality, demagoguery and even political repression; and representations of addiction to cell phones and social networks, which although it has been caused by the negligence of large techno companies, it is no less true that it is our habits that encourage it. Because in Kuczynski’s world not everything is the fault of the great leaders, but also of our habits. For this reason, in his illustrations he portrays technology as a kind of new religion, alienating and harmful, of which we are staunch devotees by conviction.

But such a vision is not closed or prejudiced, since Kuczynski thinks that:

Facebook and other technological innovations are just tools. It is up to us the purpose for which we will use them.

What he says has a parallel in his work, because as some of his illustrations demonstrate, there is also the possibility of “getting out of the box” and changing our chip.
