The purpose of this work is not to add one more system to the many that already exist, but rather to provide an integrative framework for a better understanding and critique of current efforts aimed at reducing balance-altering stress reactions. On the other hand, this book offers clinical guidance for a cognitive-behavioral treatment system, called stress inoculation training (SIA). Over the past decade, my colleagues and I have clinically researched and developed this treatment method, which many other researchers have applied to a variety of populations, both therapeutically and preventively.
