Morning Glory clouds are special because they are born in completely different formations than the ones we are used to observing. They resemble white vaporous rolls that are distributed throughout the sky and can reach up to a thousand kilometers in length. As if this were not already extraordinary in itself, you can almost touch them since they start from 100 or 200 meters high, ascending up to 1 or 2 kilometers. In short, they are clouds of colossal size that are born very low, almost attached to the earth’s surface.
Clouds that roll in on themselves
To increase the difficulty of observing them, these types of clouds are accompanied by sudden gusts of wind and intense high-intensity wind shears. This is a rapid increase in the vertical displacement of air that implies a strong pressure that occurs at the surface of the cloud. Consequently, the front of the cloud experiences a vertical motion that transports air to the rear of the formation, while the rear air turbulently returns to the front, giving the appearance of rolling back on itself.
