The 10-year-old snake required 15 men to hold it at its full length for its record measurement to be taken, and their diet consists of a combination of rabbits, pigs and deer served every two weeks. Medusa can swallow an 18-kilogram deer in a single meal. The snake weighs 158.8 kg.
Reticulated pythons mainly populate Southeast Asia, Indonesia and the Philippines and are also known as strong swimmers. In 1912, a specimen photographed in Sulawesi measured an astonishing 10 m (32 ft 10 in). However, unlike Medusa, the unnamed animal was never kept alive in captivity.
