Know the 8 types of frogs that could disappear

When you think of a frog, croaking at this greenish amphibian probably comes to mind, whose long legs allow them to use jumping as a means of transportation. We can even imagine the humid environment in which they live, such as a river, according to their species and characteristics. Unfortunately, the diversity of these amphibians has been decreasing according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Currently, this genus only consists of 47 species, divided between the true frogs of the New World, the brown frogs, pond frogs and the vermilion (or temporaria) frog. And as time goes by, more and more species are disappearing due to environmental abuse. Among which are the following:

Agalychnis lemur. This species is mainly found in Costa Rica and Panama. The decline of this species is due to an infectious disease caused by the fungus chytridiomycosis.

Agalychnis moreletii, which is native to Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico. Its favorite habitats are mountains, forests and humid areas. It is another species endangered by chytridiomycosis, as well as habitat loss.

Anodonthyla vallani is found in the upper mountain area of the Madagascar Reserve. The existence of this species depends on the preservation of its habitat.

Atelopus varius, also known as the harlequin frog, which was once believed to be extinct. Normally this species lives near Quepos, Costa Rica and Panama.

Balebreviceps hillmani is commonly known as the Bale Mountains tree frog, which can only be found in the Bale Mountains National Park in Ethiopia. Although the area is protected, the degradation of its habitat has decreased the presence of these beings.

Boophis williamsi, located in Madagascar. Its habitat is in danger due to the abuse of agriculture in the area.

Callulina dawida. It is mainly found in the southeast of Kenya. The population of this species suffered habitat fragmentation, which caused them to live in different areas of the forest.

Craugastor greggi are found mainly in Guatemala and Mexico. They live in humid forests. The loss of its environment as well as the presence of chytridiomycosis has caused its decline to the point of reaching the limits of its extinction.
