Can you make gin at home?

According to the Vix website, it is entirely possible. A journalist from the media investigated and described it in first person. This was a question I asked myself a long time ago. I investigated not with much hope. To make gin at home you have to take some very important things into account, especially around distillation.

As I feared, making gin is not at all easy. However, I found a possibility that more than one may find attractive. It is an infusion based on vodka and some herbs that gives rise to this type of gin.

On the other hand, there are many people who for different reasons cannot tolerate vodka. It is something that one can frequently encounter: people who, although they enjoy other similar spirits such as gin or rum, simply cannot even smell the aroma of vodka. Do you know someone like that?

Maybe even you are one of those, so there you have another good reason to try this preparation and finally do something with that bottle of vodka that you keep at home and never know what to use.

Having all this clear, let’s move on to see some aspects about gin and the gin that we will now dedicate ourselves to preparing with a much simpler process.

What is gin?

On previous occasions we have already seen different aspects of gin, but reviewing a little can help us better understand the meaning of this preparation.

He gin or gin It is a drink of Dutch origin. It has an alcohol content of between about 40º and 47º and its production, very similar to that of vodka, is carried out by distilling barley and mixing different herbaceous and fruit elements.

A gin is created from a grain-based spirit with an approximate alcohol content by volume of 96%, which is then diluted and rectified in different ways. When diluted and bottled it can be confused with a juniper flavored vodka.

Really easy and innovative, don’t you think? Some may consider it a real sacrilege to use vodka for this infusion or think that it is easier to go directly to the liquor store and buy a gin, but there are also those of us who enjoy preparing our own drinks at home and know that it is always more special.
