Do you pay double if you work on the holidays of May 25 and 26?

The Employment Contract Law No. 27,744, in its article 166, establishes that during national holidays the legal regulations corresponding to Sunday rest apply. This means that those workers who provide services on these days “will receive the usual remuneration for working days, plus an equal amount.”

In the specific case of the national holiday on Thursday, May 25, workers have the right to receive double payment, that is, 100% additional to the salary of a normal day of work. On the other hand, in the case of working on Friday, May 26, which is a bridge holiday, workers will receive a payment equivalent to that of any other holiday.

Furthermore, in accordance with Law No. 27,399, in its article 8, employees who work on holidays for tourist purposes and transferable holidays have the same remuneration rights that current legislation establishes for national holidays.

After the extra long weekend in May, there will be five long weekends left for 2023:
