Health withdraws a well-known drug against hypertension: These are the reasons

Hethrough the (AEMPS), has withdrawn a well-known drug used to alleviate hypertension. The drug in question is Enapril/Hydrochlorothiazidemore specifically, the one belonging to the lot P575. Government made this decision after reporting an error in the stability studies, for which a level 2 defect classification was obtained.

Consequently, the AEMPS has begun to withdraw the product “Enapril/Hydrochlorothiazide Stada 20/12.5 mg tablets EFG, 28 tablets, and manufactured by Laboratories Lesvi, SL”. All the autonomous communities have been asked to monitor the withdrawal process.

What is Enalapril?

Enalapril/Hydrochlorothiazide Pensa is a medicine with two components: enalapril and hydrochlorothiazide.

Enalapril belongs to the group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors – ACE inhibitors. It works by dilating blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure.

Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to the group of drugs called thiazide diuretics – urination medicines.

Together, enalapril and hydrochlorothiazide help lower high blood pressure.

Enalapril/Hydrochlorothiazide Pensa is indicated for the treatment of arterial hypertension – high blood pressure – in patients whose blood pressure has not been adequately controlled with each of the components, enalapril and hydrochlorothiazide, separately.
