At the beginning of the season, Daenerys arrives at Dragonstone, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is elected King in the North and Cersei has barricaded herself in King’s Landing ready to defend the Iron Throne tooth and nail. The great strategists of both sides come into play, Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), on the one hand, and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), on the other. The Lannisters are practically alone and only have the support of Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek), apart from that of some faithful ones such as Bronn (Jerome Flynn) or The Mountain (Hafbór Júlíus Björnsson). The start is unbeatable, because it briefly returns to the character of Walder Frey (David Bradley) in the Twins.
This seventh season does not waste practically any episode and in all of them, except the first, there is a lot of action. Daenerys soon realizes that strategy is slow and tedious, and that a triumph, such as the taking of Casterly Rock, can turn into defeat, so she soon takes advantage of the war potential of her three dragons, true weapons of mass destruction. , as we see at the end of “Spoils of War.”
Jeremy Podeswa, who directed the first two episodes of the previous season, is in charge of opening and closing the seventh. If the final two episodes of the sixth season had taken Game of Thrones to one of its creative peaks, the entire seventh season is in a golden mediocrity, and that despite the enormous production efforts and the spectacular nature of the battles, which, for the first time, have become smaller. There has been, yes, some unexpected but secondary deaths (one of them of a certain grandeur), little sex, but very timely, and a revelation that had already been an open secret for several seasons.
