Experts in patient safety gathered in Cali, Healthcare Advance Conference 2018 –

With the participation of more than 40 experts in quality of care and patient safety, from Latin America and the United States, the “Healthcare Advance Conference 2018: new challenges in Quality and Health Risk Management” will be held at the Hotel facilities Cali Intercontinental.

The international event will be the stage for discussing the challenges of the region to guarantee patient safety through better quality and health risk management and will take place this Thursday, November 1 and Friday, November 2.

The Healthcare Advance Conference 2018 (HAC 2018) is a conference organized by the Florida International University (FIU), the International Society for Quality in Healthcareand (ISQua), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Medical CenterColombia, whose central theme will be the challenges in quality and health risk management in Latin America

“Our leadership allows us to be part of this event in which we will share our experiences in building and strengthening the culture of quality and patient safety,” said Dr. Astolfo Franco, director of Quality Assurance and medical care, of Medical Center.

Indeed, the Medical Center is a pioneer in the construction of its Patient Safety Program, 20 years ago, and which served as a model for the Ministry of Health, for its implementation in health institutions throughout the country.

In this order, Healthcare Advance Conference, seeks to impact patient safety and the quality of services through policies that expand and guarantee the accreditation process as a mechanism that promotes and strengthens health systems in the region and will be the axis center of the discussion.

The conference organized by the Florida International University (FIU), the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and the Medical Centeris headquartered for its second version in Colombia, a country that stands out in the region for the important advances it has made in areas, such as insurance coverage, which is practically universal.

“However, there is still a long way to go in components such as quality and patient safety. This situation was confirmed with a recent study carried out by the IDB where 70% of Colombians stated that they were dissatisfied with the health services they receive,” said Dr. Alejandro Arrieta, professor at Florida International University, organizer of HAC 2018. ,

“The apparent paradox between the recognition of international organizations and experts for Colombia’s advances in health, and the poor perception of users about the quality of the services received, motivated us to carry out HAC 2018 in Colombia,” said the Dr Arrieta.

HAC 2018 will be a space where, from a global vision, improvements in patient safety will be sought through higher quality and better health risk management.

Accreditation as the main tool to promote quality in the face of inadequate or unsafe medical practices, medication errors and inappropriate treatments, quality and health risk management, will be at the center of the discussion.

The specialists of Medical Center They will also address issues such as the international accreditation process, the determination of whether an organization is financially and operationally ready to achieve this maximum objective. Likewise, they will expose and analyze leadership styles to improve the quality and safety of the patient.

Among the international participants, the following stand out: Galed Hakim (Baptist Health International, USA), Cory Pérez (Grupo Hospitalario San Pablo, Peru), Marcelo Pellizzari (Hospital Universitario Austral, Argentina) and Juan Pablo Sarmiento (FIU, USA).
