Catalonia will reduce the waiting time in the dependency assessment

The Department of Social Rights of the Generalitat de Catalunya will increase its budget by 13.1% for 2023 compared to the previous year, which will reduce by half the waiting time to achieve an assessment of the degree of dependency and the resolution of the Program Individual Care (PIA), which gives rise to receiving a benefit or accessing a care service for people in a situation of dependency, such as residences or day centers.

Specifically, of the 2,981 million euros in 2022, the Department of Social Rights will have €3.520 million (392 more), 239.88 million euros of which are Next Generation funds planned to be executed and granted in 2023.

Broadly speaking, the amounts allocated are broken down as follows:

  • 839.3 million euros for dependency care services (older people, people with disabilities and people with social problems derived from mental illness), among which there is an increase of 81.3 million to open new jobs and one of 80 million more for the increase in service rates.
  • 17.2 million for the reduction of valuation waiting listsn the degree of disability and dependency (+€1.9M).

The fight against poverty, civic action and social inclusion are other major areas within the budgets of and 821.16 million euros are allocated, 81.81 million more than in the previous ones (+11%).

This increase will allow deploy protection networks to deal with the which go through strengthening the social services system and expanding policies aimed at individuals and families in situations of greatest vulnerability to reduce poverty -especially child poverty-, social exclusion and inequalities.
