COLITIS

Lymphocytic Colitis and Collagenous Colitis: Lymphocytic colitis is a non-infectious disease of the digestive system that affects the colon and causes chronic watery diarrhea without blood or mucus as its main symptom. The cause is unknown, although according to some theories it is an autoimmune disease. This disorder is related to collagenous colitis, both diseases together form the group of disorders known as microscopic colitis. Pseudomembranous Colitis: Pseudomembranous colitis is an inflammation of the colon that occurs when, under certain circumstances, the bacterium called Clostridium difficile damages the organ through its toxin, producing diarrhea and the appearance inside the colon of whitish plaques called pseudomembranes. It almost always appears in people previously treated with antibiotics for infections of all kinds, and in debilitated people admitted to hospitals or nursing homes.
