5 recommendations to promote the habit of reading

Sometimes it happens that we want to read certain books, we even buy them to read them but the year goes by and we find that we haven’t even finished the first chapter, because there never seems to be time or energy to read the book. If you are trying to read more, consider that it is a habit that can be developed and thought of some useful tips to do so:

1. Link your new reading habit to different triggers during the day. For example: 1) read after stretching and meditating; 2) read when you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner; 3) read when you go to bed. That’s 5 daily triggers and at 4 pages per session (more or less), for a total of 20 pages per day.

Are you finishing a book a day? No, but even at 20 pages a day thanks to your triggers you stay at a good pace. So create triggers that work for you. If you have recess or eat lunch alone, put down the phone and grab a book instead. Choose books that you know you want to read and you will create a habit quickly.

See reading sessions as a pleasure you are giving yourself

2. Enjoy reading: Don’t look at it as a task that you have to do in a hurry to be able to do more urgent things. If you see it like that you will not continue reading. Instead, look at reading sessions as a treat you’re giving yourself. Immerse yourself in the world of the book and let the new experience transform you, give you new perspectives.

3. Only read books you enjoy. This point complements the previous one. If a book bores you after a couple of days (because you gave it a chance), put it down.

4. Take the book everywhere. Those moments on the train, in a waiting room, in a line, etc. They are golden opportunities to read. If you have a Kindle, it is the most practical thing to carry everywhere and always have something to read.

5. Use a closet. You should close all your devices when reading. Notifications are going to distract you. If necessary, put them inside a closet.

What books do you have on your list for this year? We hope that these tips help you finish them and, if you have others that we do not name here, feel free to share them with us.
