The Medical Center creates a strategic alliance for the structuring of the first Genomic Medicine Unit in Colombia and Latin America –

The Medical Centeradvances to make the biggest and most immediate challenge of health care a reality: the practice of medicine, especially predictive, preventive and personalized.

Veritas Intercontinental is the international subsidiary of Veritas Genetics, which operates in Europe, Latin America, Japan and the Emirates. The company will contribute to this agreement its experience in diagnosis and genetic counseling, complete genome sequencing, its interpretation, as well as support and specific training for the Medical Center involved in the Genomic Medicine Unit.

Yesterday the signing of the strategic alliance created between the Medical Center and the signature Veritas Intercontinentalan agreement that will allow the Colombian southwest and the rest of the country to have the first Genomic Medicine Unit of Colombiamedicine based on the sequencing of the Complete Genome, bearing in mind that the DNA sequence constitutes the heritable genetic information that forms the basis of the development programs of living beings.

Genomic Medicine, is the study of the human genome; Genomics constitutes a new scientific foundation of medicine that will allow the patient to know, through specialized and personalized studies, the cause or origin of a pathology, new diagnostic and computer methods that provide important data on the development of a disease and processes preventive measures ensuring a good quality of life in the people operated on.

By becoming a predictive medicine that identifies the risk years before the disease appears, it allows the implementation of personalized treatments based on the genomic profile of each patient, since the treatments do not work the same in all people.

With this integration, the Medical Center is positioned as a center of reference for Colombia in the complete and advanced study of the complete genome of the patients; key tool for the diagnosis and treatment of people with hereditary pathologies and preventive health mechanism for healthy people.

“Medicine, by itself, conceptually and vocationally is a service to the community; it is the fight for the maintenance of health in a population”; in the words of Dr. Ramon Cacabelos, President of the Association for Genomic Medicinewhich makes the Genomic Medicine it is to make a qualitative and quantitative leap in the transformation of current medicine, which is a restorative medicine, which is only capable of acting when the disease is affecting it.

From this point of view, the service that the Genomic Medicine offers the patient is the personalization of treatments, anticipating diagnoses to be able to act prophylactically and, ultimately, preventing diseases from appearing or delaying their appearance, firstly to avoid the damage that a disease generates in a population or in a person, secondly, to generate well-being, therefore, the final objective of the Genomic Medicine it is a direct service, personalized to the population and to the society that should be served.

Now him Cauca’s Valley offers the country and the world, through the new Genomic Medicine Unit of Medical Centerthe option of accessing preventive mechanisms that will allow knowing and working on the prevention of possible diseases that a person can develop.

In relation to traditional genetic tests, which only study a limited number of genes associated with certain pathologies, the Complete Genome offers a total vision of the patient’s genetics that allows delving into a certain pathology and finding hidden interactions between different ailments, it is information that allows to improve both the diagnosis of the disease and the approach to it and its treatment.

Compared to other genetic tests, the Complete Genome offers all the quality and useful information that helps the medical community make better decisions for patient care.

Veritas Intercontinental will bring to this agreement its experience in genetic counseling and diagnosis, genome sequencing and interpretation, and training Ad hoc of the staff of Medical Center.

“The agreement with Veritas Intercontinental will allow us to reinforce our offer of services, keeping us at the forefront of healthcare medicine with our first Genomic Medicine Unit in Colombiafrom the world leader in sequencing and interpretation of the whole genome (WGS)” says the Dr. Alejandro De La Torre, Scientific Director of Medical Center.

The Genomic Medicine Unit will be a key piece in the vision of the Medical Centeroriented towards personalized health care, “a field where whole genome sequencing offers a vital roadmap that marks a before and after in what we now understand as a long and healthy life” emphasizes the Dr De La Torre, Scientific Director of Medical Center.
