Research Ethics Committee – Medical Center

The Research Ethics Committee is formed in the Medical Center of Cali SA in 2006 and works based on fortnightly meetings. It has nine (9) main members, one (1) substitute member and administrative staff, this composition obeys universally accepted guidelines that stipulate the importance of having the representation of different professional, institutional and community groups among its members.

The CIS It is governed by Resolution No. 8430 of October 4, 1993 of the Colombian Ministry of Social Protection, which establishes the scientific, technical, and administrative standards for health research; by Resolution No. 2378 of June 27, 2008, by which Good Clinical Practices are adopted for institutions that conduct research with drugs in humans; by the principles of the World Medical Assembly set forth in its Helsinki Declaration of 1964, last revised in Fortaleza-Brazil, October 2013, among others. Similarly, this Committee has been certified in Good Clinical Practices in Research for him INVIMA.

This Committee is registered with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Office for the Protection of Human Beings in Research (OHRP for its acronym in English) of the United States and certified as IRB – Institutional Review Board (Institutional Review Board).

Similarly, it has International Federal Guarantee (FWA) of the OHRP, a guarantee of compliance with the regulations of the United States government for the protection of human subjects in research, allowing the evaluation of research protocols that are carried out with funds from the National Institutes of Health of this country.

The CIS is a founding member of the Red de Comités de Ética en Investigación con Humanos (RECEIH-Cali), an inter-institutional and interdisciplinary group that has voluntarily combined knowledge, experience and efforts in order to promote the creation of a culture of respect and awareness towards humans. rights and well-being of research participants, encourage the implementation of creative approaches in institutions to facilitate the mission of protecting research participants, promote scientific integrity and ethical responsibility of the researcher, and provide continuing education in research ethics to members of ethics committees, researchers, and institutional administrators.
