Breastfeeding: warm milk-flavored love –

Breast milk is the ideal food for your baby, as it allows optimal physical, emotional and mental training.

Breastfeeding is also essential for the growth and development of the child and exerts an unparalleled biological influence on the health of both mother and baby. This process, which could be called the new umbilical cord, creates imprints in the emotional memory of this new being with its environment, preparing it and favoring its immune system.

Those who work in child health also recognize that it is important to improve infant feeding practices. In 1991, UNICEF and the WHO (World Health Organization) jointly launched the Baby Friendly Hospitals initiative, which aims to improve maternity services so that they protect, promote and support breastfeeding through the implementation of practice of the “ten steps to a happy natural breastfeeding”.

The Medical Center adheres to this important global education and support initiative, promoting to mothers the importance of skin-to-skin contact during the first 60 minutes after birth, even in special situations where babies need some type of special intervention.

Breastfeeding is exclusive for the first 6 months of life, along with adequate complementary feeding up to two years of age, even after they have turned.

All health workers, doctors and nursing staff, those in charge of caring for mothers and their children after the prenatal period must develop a key role in maintaining lactation; Hence, there is an urgent need to train all employees involved in the care of mothers and babies, developing the skills required to support and protect breastfeeding.
